Public Historian

History Beyond the Classroom

Public history encompasses the diverse ways that historical practice can engage with the public outside of traditional educational and academic settings, including museums and historic sties, libraries and archives, film and media, and more.

Museums and Historic Sites

My own public history experience includes various roles at Colonial Williamsburg, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, and Sherwood Forest Plantation. Current and former students have worked at Heritage Museums and Gardens, Ohio History Connection, and Strawbery Banke Museum.

Film and Media

I provided historical research for season 2 of The Future of America’s Past. Current and former student media work includes the Tempest: A UNE Arts and Humanities Podcast.

UNE’S PROGRAM IN PUBLIC HISTORY

The University of New England has launched a new Public History concentration in the History major and a new Public History minor to train students for work in the field.

TEACHING PUBLIC HISTORY

I bring my public history experience to the classroom in courses throughout the UNE History program. I also taught a public history course in partnership with Ohio History Connection.
