Public History Experience

MUSEUMS AND HISTORIC SITES

My own public history experience includes various roles at Colonial Williamsburg, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, and Sherwood Forest Plantation. Current and former students have worked at Biddeford Cultural and Heritage Center in Biddeford, ME; Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich, MA; Ohio History Connection in Columbus, OH; and Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, NH. One former student has also earned a Masters degree in Public History.

FILM AND MEDIA

I provided historical research for season 2 of The Future of America’s Past.

UNE’S PROGRAM IN PUBLIC HISTORY

The University of New England has launched a new Public History concentration in the History major and a new Public History minor to train students for work in the field. Our program also offers students a chance to participate in a new public history fellowship program, the Impact History Lab Innovation Team.

TEACHING PUBLIC HISTORY

At Otterbein University, I taught a course on public history in partnership with the Ohio History Connection. At UNE, I helped develop the public history concentration and minor, and I teach several core public history courses in that program.
